Though Kia Dyson’s professional title is, CEO and lead designer of Golden Launch Creative, a company specializing in Squarespace website design, her acumen is rooted in more than coding. Her brilliance in the digital space comes from a long history in the physical space, specifically as it pertains to art and the creation of visual narrative. Before becoming an established Squarespace designer, Dyson was an accomplished photographer, shooting for juggernauts like the Cotton brand, as well as making fashion editorial work for cultural cornerstones and some landing on Beyonce.com. Beyond her commissions behind the camera, she also shot for her own creative endeavors, much of which was featured in galleries around the world and published in major newspapers like The Washington Post and New York Times, as well as in seminal books, most notably, Dandy Lion: The Black Dandy and Street Style.

So her transition to a web designer and creator of Golden Launch was a natural one, as her aesthetic is indicative of her understanding of composition, color, and narrative. She understands a website is simply the nexus of photography and collage, the primary difference being in its function. To her, websites are meant to be living things, platforms that communicate the owner’s agenda clearly, while also being in conversation with the peruser. It’s a persuasive portal for product, promo, and most importantly personhood. That’s why her client list is so dynamic and consists of so many celebrities, artists, and young ingenues whose constitutions around digital presence line up with her own.
